Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland were left without power on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that various areas across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams working to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, around 1,000 households in the southern state also experienced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred calls for help across the state, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Werribee region - recorded substantial weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

During the peak on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with ongoing severe weather risk expected across various areas of both areas.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.
